Former president Musharraf had planned to murder Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry last year during his last days in presidency on May 5th 2007. Hamid Meer, a popular anchorperson and Urdu columnist have narrated the nerves-shattering sensational story about the disgraced general Musharraf’s dangerous and negative approach towards the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and the independent judiciary.
For the sake and protection of 'national interests', it was decided that the CJ should be gunned downed at Grand Trunk Road [GT Road] near Gujrat city with help of Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain, brother of Chaudhry Shujat Hussain. Wajahat, known as Commander in the family, who raised his own private army named "Wajahat Force"- is notorious for killing, shooting and abduction in Gujrat.
On May 5th 2007, Chief Justice was going to lead a rally at GT Road. He was going to Lahore to address the High Court Bar. Musharraf ordered his cronies- at least two major generals-who were heading the two premier army agencies, to stop him at all cost from proceeding to Lahore.
The 'Saviors' of the National Interests devised the three-phased multi pronged plan to block the Chief Justice rally at GT Road near Rawat-Mandra adjacent to the capital.
The first phase of the plan could not be implemented due to the withdrawal at the last moment and due to the huge public and lawyers gatherings at Kechehry Chowk, Rawalpindi at the beginning of the procession.
Army House the residence of general Musharraf was hardly one kilometer away from the crossing point [Kechehry Chowk] of districts court. The mammoth gatherings forced Musharraf to withdraw his evil designed plan. The second phase were to disrupt the procession through sporadic firing and killing of innocent and unarmed civilian participants in-between Jhelum and Gujrat-the strong hold districts of pro Musharraf bandwagon of politicians at that time.
Hamid Meer disclosed that so-called 'Saviors' of the National Interests had decided among themselves that an ambush would be implemented by Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain at the rally. The real target would have been the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry with whose death the movement for restoration of judiciary would have died down automatically.
But this fatal plan and evil design of General Musharraf failed due opposition of Pervez Elahi, the Chief Minister of the Punjab.
Hamid Meer claimed in his column that Chaudhry Pervez Elahi was not informed about this plan and when he came to know about Musharraf plot to kill the CJ he refused to be a party in it and valiantly opposed the plan.
"He was informed by some other highly placed sources that he and his whole family would be implicated in the murder of Chief Justice by the junta", wrote Hamid Meer.
"Musharraf was thinking that he would become 'Hero' in the eyes of public due to immediate arrest of 'culprits' san the political divide", Meer asserted.
Musharraf wanted to dislodge Pervez Elahi from the Chief Ministership because he had become a potential candidate of premiership against the then Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, the blue-eyed banker of general Musharraf and US administration.
Even Pervez Elahi was an eyesore for the vanguards of 'national interest' because he was opposed pro-American policies to save his constituency and public support that was not acceptable to top strategists- the duty bond for the protection of national interests.
Pervez Elahi threatened that he would publicly disclose the evil murder plot Chief justice of Pakistan if it was not terminated", Hamid Meer revealed.
Pervez Elahi’s threat bore fruit and the plan was postponed. Pervez Elahi saved the country from another crisis that would have resulted from the childish whims of the 'TOP' military strategists of the Musharraf Junta.
Meer speaks with Pulse
Talking to Pulse Hamid Meer revealed that, he met Chaudhry Pervez Elahi to confirm the details of the conspiracy by Musharraf to kill the chief justice and implicate his family for the murder.
After long arguments Pervez Elahi conditionally agreed to confirm the facts in a unique way said Hamid Meer. Pervez Elahi suggested that I should narrate the story he would nod his head on hearing the facts. " I got 70 percent of positive nods during my narration ", Hamid Meer told the Pulse. The plan to block the GT Road and use indiscriminate firing was executed only after one week in Karachi on May 12, 2007 to prevent the chief justice to address the lawyers at Sindh High Court Bar Association. A top military man was revealed to have flew to London to meet Altaf Hussain for the execution of this evil design to kill the CJ Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry at Shahrah Faisal.
