In view of Pakistan’s worst ever energy crisis, involving both electricity and gas, Caretaker Prime Minister Mohammadmian Soomro has appealed to the nation to conserve energy and avoid wastage. However, Soomro showed no sense of remorse on the mess resulting from the poor planning and gross mismanagement by the previous government, of which Soomro, as chairman of the Senate, was a member.
It is ironic that the people now have to sacrifice and suffer because of the follies of the rulers, who are not ready to share the burden of power outages and gas loadshedding.
In any other country, a crisis of this magnitude would have resulted in the initiation of a high-level inquiry and resignations by the ministers and top officials concerned. But our rulers are above law and not accountable to the people.
