Unlike the past, Chitral has received heavy snowfall on the heels of a beautiful spring. This freakish snowfall has damaged the crops and the blossoming fruit trees. Livestock has suffered badly as well. Electric supply and telecommunication services have also been disrupted. Roads have been blocked due to avalanches and landslides. Water channels have been damaged. Mud houses suffered damages at some places.
People are facing acute shortage of food items and fuel, including kerosene oil used for lighting and cooking. The local government is unable to cope with the crisis. So the onus is now on the provincial government to act quickly and provide much-needed relief to the people in cash and kind.
