It is not that Mr Asif Zardari is short of advisors, never the less, I feel obliged to give him one, especially after having acquaintance with him in 1992-1993, when the police used to bring him handcuffed to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Islamabad. My sincere advice to him would be to make Aitzaz Ahsan, who is a well-respected politician, as candidate for premiership of the Pakistan People’s Party. Amin Fahim, being a mature politician, would not mind it. The decision would have following implications:
· It would help erase anti-Punjabi feelings creeping up in the ranks and files of PPP after Benazir’s sad demise.
· It would get support from lawyer’s community who feel betrayed by PPP.
· It would reiterate the slogan of PPP being the symbol of federation.
· It would send a positive signal to those 61 judges who refused to take oath under the new PCO.
· It would send an encouraging message to the civil society, students, print and electronic media which were left confused by the policies of PPP
· In the end, it would make Asif Zardari look taller politically.
