Pakistan is an agricultural country, so it is shameful that people in great numbers are lined up early in the morning in front of government utility stores to buy a bag of flour. Where are the ministers of the last cabinet who made loud claims about bumper wheat crops and self-sufficiency in wheat?
It does not require much contemplation to arrive at the two basic reasons for the crisis:
1. Smuggling of wheat flour out of the country.
2. Hoarding of wheat to create an artificial shortage, to sell the grain later on at inflated price.
Both the crimes are committed by the influential elite, which never ever misses a chance to exploit people. Government agencies can, and should, bring such unscrupulous elements to task.
