Pakistan, the winner of limited 50overs and T-20 world champion passing their critical time as Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) heads doing their best to restore the international cricket in the country with the positive support of International Cricket Council (ICC) as no international cricket has been held in Pakistan since March 2009 due to security concerns since the attack on the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore in March 2009.
After March 2009 terrorist attack every cricket team refuse to play in Pakistan also hit the Pakistan cricket Board financially to forcing it to approve a PCB deficit budget. International Cricket Council also formed a task team which named Pakistan Task Team (PTT) who will play their positive role and make the recommendations for the revival of international cricket in Pakistan. PTT team chaired by England's Giles Clarke was formed in 2009 to ensure Pakistan retained and developed international cricket.
Pakistan Task Team presented the 38pages report to the International Cricket Council during ICC annual conference in Hong Kong, listing 63 far-reaching recommendations that it believed would strengthen cricket in Pakistan. The report has also called, in strong terms, for a resumption of cricket ties with India, recognising it to be a key component of the fabric of Pakistan’s cricket. The report mentioning that the appointment of the PCB chairman by the country's president as highly unusual, and wants an end to the government's undue interference in the Pakistan Cricket Board. In the 38 pages report on Pakistan revival for international cricket, the PTT made a number of recommendations about the PCB, including national team selection. The task team observed that Pakistan has had at least five different sets of selectors over the past five years, with the chairman of the board appointing the captain. "There must be stability in the composition of selection committee," the PTT says. The national team is announced only when it is approved by the chairman, but the PTT says the "chairman's right of veto on the selection of players should be removed." Presently, 45 players are centrally contracted with the PCB, including 30 in Category A, B and C, with 15 receiving monthly stipends. However, the PTT has recommended reducing contracted players to 25 plus 10 on stipends.
If seeing the recommendations of Pakistan Task Team feels that PTT leave the real track which given to them by International Cricket Council as in 38 pages report never reveling that of PTT efforts make some response as any of one foreign team is ready to come Pakistan and compete the international cricket against green shirts.
Pakistan Task Team, ignored the reality in the Pakistan which unknown that if Pakistan team performed poorly in any major international event then pressure come on the shoulders of PCB chief to resignation as well as PCB domestic cricket policy providing some good opportunity to young talented players which comes from every corner of the country.
On the other hand Pakistan Cricket Board has said that it will respond to the recommendations and suggestions made by the ICC’s Pakistan Task Team (PTT) within ten days.
"We are observing each and every recommendation in microscopic detail and we will write a detailed response with our observations to the ICC in ten days’ time," PCB chief operating officer Subhan Ahmed said.
The PCB is reportedly unhappy with some of the suggestions in the report, particularly on selection and contract issues. They are also clear that the recommendations are merely guidelines, and they are not obliged to implement them.
"These are recommendations and not obligatory directives," a senior board official said. "They are not meant to be mandatory. These recommendations are just an observation by the task team. It is assumed that by adopting them, the system will improve but it is completely up to the board to comprehend what actually is feasible to adopt and what is not."
A member of the PCB governing council pointed out that the task team had not visited Pakistan even once to check ground realities while compiling the report. "What is also disappointing is that the task force has given no roadmap for the revival of international cricket in Pakistan," another board official said.
Former captain Javed Miandad was also critical of some of the guidelines. "Making recommendations or suggestions regarding the quality of cricket balls we use in our domestic circuit or our selection process are issues that should not be of concern to the task force," he said. "These are purely internal matters of the PCB."
Looking one of the recommendation that in strong terms mentioning for a resumption of cricket ties between archrivals Pakistan and India, but if we see on the other hand only one direction of ICC president Sharad Pawar can resume the cricket ties of between two countries but Mr. Sharad Pawar is not interested to doing practical decisions which can make major boost for Pakistan to open the doors for the foreign teams.
From my point of view on the PTT report, PCB should react strongly on this kind of stupid report as ICC role to promote the cricket or not to dictate any of cricketing country to implement on his orders as ICC real work to only suggest and improve the cricket standard in the world.
ICC current setup also wants to kick out Pakistan and Bangladesh joint candidate for the next ICC president ship and this is the right time to PCB heads for more effective and send their strong message to the international community that Pakistan is not alone and international cricket will held soon in the Pakistani grounds.
