As it was anticipated UN again caddied as a Waikiki for great power politics. In the wake of unabated violence and inglorious human rights violation, resolution in Security Council objurgating Syria's despot Assad has been double vetoed by Russia and China, twice in last four months. It has not only licencesed czarist to continue with his massive pogrom but also illustrated the willingness of Russia to shield its key weapon export destination and host to Moscow's only naval port outside former Soviet Union. This flunking of United Nations has raised genuine questions regarding the deliverance of United Nations in arbitrating the disputes.
Having passaged 66 years when United Nations was at the outset by super powers with astronomical aspirations of peace across the globe along with the peaceful resolution of disputes. Vision turned into a delusion and organization has botched pulling off its results which were sought and conjectured. The tallies of its flops outnumber its triumphs in upholding the peace despite of no total war since its inception.
It is an ostensible assertion that United Nations needs to be restructured without which the prospects in future would be practically grim to meet with, in the interdependent and humanitarian world. This corroborates its certain loopholes which are impeding its goals and making its future obscure.
The orthodoxy of UN can be delineated by the fact that no perceptible reform has been done since its genesis and it's lingering with the same figure of undeviating members which were laid forward which has scathingly obstructed the likeliness of any intrepid measure in any dispute where conflicting political agendas have encumbered the path of peace building, interventions or penalizing with sanctions.
Historically the middle power states always opined UN as a tool of western powers seeking legitimacy for their outlawed expeditions and ventures and its precedents can be found in Korean war of 50s and the gulf war of early 90s where UN laboured zealously harbouring the extended interests of power's paramounts. Intervention in Afghanistan and Iraq can be branded as imprecate backslidings of inept and slouch Organization where its enaction was no more than a glove doll.
Apparently it darts a bleak depiction of future outlook where UN could enact efficaciously. To support the argument one can roll the reason that unbridled powers of the permanent members have enabled them to pursue their own interests and agendas and have zeroed the possibility of consensus on any issue. Contemporaneously the vetoing of China and Russia over the issue of Syria illustrates the same phenomenon.
The global sphere of states as an actor is marked with interdependence which has signified the role of non-state and non-governmental actors. It has transfigured the tone of International politics and till to the date UN has missed the mark to encompass this emerging trend and its furtherance would foster its irrelevance in coming future if not ameliorated.
The another imperative concern is the trifling influence of economic and social council where countries in recent times are grumbling pertaining financial constraints and its practical elucidation can be traced when au-courantly Canada said no to the Kyoto protocol formulated under the global environmental conventions.
The most importantly where UN is lacking is the area of enforcement where Security Council despite of its preponderance could not implement its decisions, its resolutions and its sanctions, and it profoundly burdens the small countries who pay the price of interventions and aggressions.
The dynamics of global affairs have been changed a lot, now focus lies with the individuals and United Nations is travailing to operate in this changed environment.
UN in kit and caboodle muffed in wangling bespeaked wallops. It failed to thwart the disputes, it failed to react over the disputes and it fluffed to rebuild after the disputes. If it would ramble on with present framework it won't be able to crank out any noticeable exertion or profound influence and its importance would further fizzle with anno domini.
