The clash between Ali Carter and Robert Milkins at the at the williamhill.com UK Championship in York was an even contest in which the former prevailed 6-4.

Carter won the first frame but Milkins hit back to take the lead, only for Carter to square things up at 2-2.

Milkins took the fifth frame and looked set to go 4-2 clear - but a missed green proved costly as Carter cleared to level the match at 3-3.

Carter missed frame ball at 53-20 and was 27 up with 22 on table, before holding on for a 60-33 frame success.

The 32-year-old from Essex won a third successive frame to move to within one of victory - but Milkins kept his hopes alive by taking the ninth.

However, a missed yellow by Milkins proved costly as he appeared set to take the match to a deciding frame - with Carter clearing to pink to book his place in the last 16.
