Challenges for Zaka Ashraf….?
November 04, 2011
The history of Pakistan cricket in the disciplinary issues were not very good as Pakistan Cricket Board heads in past not taking strong actions to maintain their players code of conduct as well as to break the players powers.
Former chairman PCB Ijaz Butt done their best during his three years tenure as he never compromise on disciplinary matters and taken strict actions against violators and become successful to break the player’s power.
The spot-fixing saga has badly hit the image of Pakistan cricket at the international level as well as foreign cricket team still avoiding to play cricket in Pakistan as they always shown the security concern after the terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team.
Choudhry Zaka Ashraf who replaced Ijaz Butt as the new chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) by the direction of President of Pakistan and chief Patron of PCB Asif Ali Zardari, assumed his charge as a new chief but big challenges await him as he has such a no experience in the cricket affairs as well as to recognize his abilities and strength in the International Cricket Council (ICC).
That is also important that Zaka should take strong decisions like Ijaz Butt to shown as a strong cricket administrator. There are also some rumors that Zaka Ashraf may bring his own team in the board for some results specially to appoint new chief operating officer, chairman selection committee and chief coach of national cricket team. But the reports are also appearing that before taking major decisions Zaka will discuss the different matters with several former test cricketers to finalize every think.
Former chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Ehsan Mani also suggested to Zaka Ashraf to stay clear of the team affairs and avoid dealing directly with issues related to the players, adding thathe should leave this job to managing team.
Mani noted that in the past former heads of the PCB had interfered in team issues and dealt directly with players that resulted in a lot of problems for Pakistan cricket. He said that new PCB chief should set up a specialised cricket wing in the board which should only be dealing with the team and players related issues and should be run by former players.
Mani also advised to Zaka Ashraf to focus completely on improving relations with the International Cricket Council and other cricket boards and make positive step to bring back international cricket to Pakistan.
Meanwhile newly PCB chief Zaka Ashraf also hosted a farewell reception in the honor of former PCB chairman Ijaz Butt where he acknowledge Butt efforts for the promotion of cricket.
Speaking on the occasion Choudhry Zaka Ashraf lauds the efforts of Ijaz Butt and said that his valuable contribution will promote the cricket at every level as he has done an excellent job despite facing many challenges and pay tribute to his services for the game.
Zaka said that we have a huge challenge in front of us and we have to work very hard to bring International Cricket back to the country as we have to remove the negativity created because of the spot fixing trial and move forward.
New chairman also said that his top priority will be to restore the country's reputation following a slew of damaging fixing allegations and discipline problems. "My focus will be to revive the lost glory in Pakistan cricket," Zaka said.
On the occasion outgoing PCB chairman Ijaz Butt thanked the new Chairman and staff and said that he would also like to say thanks the President of Pakistan and Patron in Chief of PCB Asif Ali Zardari for his support throughout his term. Butt hope that that all of PCB officers will work with the same vigor and give the new chairman the same support that they have shown me for the past three years.
Although everything, this is very important that cricket should revive in the country at the any cost as this will be a big task for Zaka Ashraf and his team to bring international teams in the country.
