Karachi is at the cross roads of complete destruction. More than 1000 people have become victims of senseless killings since the onset of 2011 and billions of rupees of government property has been destroyed.

According to statistics, Karachi being the hub of Pakistan economy even one day of shut down of business incurs loss of over RS 6 billion to the country while under the current deteriorating circumstances the country is facing daily loss of more than RS 2 billion.

Loss of innocent lives and destruction of public property has become a part of daily routine life of the city. The situation has deteriorated to such an extent that various groups in order just to equal their counting kill and abduct innocent people and seeing the heaps of corpses in the city seems like the city has been taken over by barbaric s instead of humans.

According to MLOs of various hospitals the torture marks on the bodies brought to the hospital are incomprehensible. Tortured Corpses are beheaded, arms or legs amputated, marks of electric shocks and holes of drill machines are a routine now. No place in the city is safe and it seems like terrorists are roaming everywhere no sign of law and order.

Even under these circumstances more than 50,000 police officials and rangers in the city are busy nabbing pillion riders instead of terrorists, who seem to be beyond their reach.

Due to the ignorant behaviour of the police besides the political, religious parties now even traders have started demanding of handing over the city to the army.

Under the entire scenario, there seems to be no government in Karachi, both Governor and Chief Minister are busy in their “tours” to Islamabad and “Political reconciliation” while the provincial home minister is busy is seeing dreams.

All including Prime Minister, President, Chief Justice of Pakistan and Army Chief are silent spectators while the federal interior minister is busy seeing the roots of terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Afghanistan in Karachi. The city which earns 60 percent of revenue of the country is under complete grip of various mafias the 20 million population of the city has become hostage. No ones life or property is safe everywhere bloodshed and destruction is seen.

In the current circumstances, close aid of President Asif Ali Zardari, former Provincial Home Minister Dr Zulfikhar Mirza resigned from the Provincial Assembly, Ministry and from the respected post of the Vice President of the PPP Sindh in a fiery press conference that created sheer waves in the political arena of the country.

Senior Pakistan People's Party leader Dr Zulfiqar Mirza has announced to resign from all party/government posts. Addressing the news folk at Karachi Press Club, he accused Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik of siding with the killers, misleading the party leadership, and contorting facts. He declared him an enemy of the state and a compulsive liar.

Malik is a compulsive liar and responsible for Karachi bloodshed, Mirza said, adding Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) doesn't have a real mandate in Karachi or Hyderabad, they extort votes at gunpoint.

Levelling another very serious allegation against MQM Chief Altaf Hussain, he said: "During a meeting with Altaf Hussain in London he (Altaf Hussain) said the US wanted to disintegrate Pakistan and he and his party (MQM) would side with the US in their goal. Therefore, Altaf Hussain said he would kill the Pathans"

Dr. Zulfiqar Mirza went on to say: "Altaf Hussain wrote a letter to the then British Prime Minister Tony Blair asking him to bust ISI before it produces any more Osama Bin Ladens."

He asked as to what sin was committed by Wali Khan Babar, a Geo News reporter who was murdered in Karachi.

Mirza said five accused who were involved in the killing of Wali Khan Babar belonged to MQM and named one of them as Liaquat who, he said, was still at large. "Liaquat is the one whose car was used in the killing and he was the one who opened fire on Wali Khan Babqar."

"MQM is the killer of Wali Khan Babar," he reiterated.

He said MQM had held hostage all industrialists, businessmen and shopkeepers of Karachi.

Dr. Mirza also alleged that the present CPLC Chief Ahmed Chinoy holds an important position in Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation (KKF) which is a welfare wing of MQM.

Before starting the press conference he swore on the Holy Quran to tell the truth and nothing but the truth.

Praising ISI and Pakistan Army Mirza said Pakistan's existence is due to the sacrifices of our security forces.

Senior provincial minister, Works & Services Dr Zulfiqar Mirza is the Vice President of PPP Sindh and also a Central Executive Committee member besides a close aide of President Asif Zardari. He was elected from Sindh Assembly seat PS-57 Badin I.

Pledging at the beginning he requested reporters to take him seriously for the first and the last time. He arrived at the Karachi Press Club at 4:20pm. The best decision of my life is to marry Dr Fehmeda Mirza, he said.

Mirza noted that he has never bend the laws and he follows the principles of Shaheed Zulfiar Ali Bhutto. Allah Almighty through Mohrarma Benazir Bhutto and Asif Ali Zardari blessed me with all that I own.

He added that I see eye to eye with my party. I'm a party worker and will always be that way. I am a Sindhi and proud of it, he added. He vowed never to bow down to cruelty.

Mirza said if anything happens to me then killers of Imran Farooq and Wali Baber would be responsible.

Dr. Mirza also alleged that the present CPLC Chief Ahmed Chinoy holds an important position in Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation (KKF) which is a welfare wing of MQM.

He said that he will not comment against Supreme Court but pleaded to open May 12 case in which numerous innocent lives were lost adding some people are holding him responsible in this regard. There is murder of 58 people on Iftikhar Chaudhry that wanted to receive him at the Karachi airport.

He went to say that I want to convey my feelings to all as all must hear as he did not do press conference for blind, deaf and ill-literate segments of the society.

On the other hand, he said more than ten bunkers have been destroyed for entry of terrorists in Liyari hence the system set up in Liyari has been abolished. With the said operation, differences have erupted between representatives of PPP Sindh and Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik.

Earlier, Zulfikhar Mirza blamed Rehman Malik for the lawlessness in Karachi adding he wanted a ban on the entry of the Interior Minister.

Rangers and Police have recovered illegal weapons and drugs from in Karachi. Police and Rangers carried out joint search operations in different areas of Karachi. The Rangers and police are patrolling in different areas of Karachi while heavy contingents of Rangers and police have reached in Orangi Town and Qasba Colony.

Meanwhile, Rangers have been deployed in Old Area Lyari, however, police will launch all operations in Qasba Colony. The Rangers have started snap checking in different areas of Lyari.

The door to door search operation was conducted after cordoning off the area. It is worthwhile mentioning that more than 52,000 officials of Rangers, Police, FC are present who will participate in the surgical operation. The criminals and culprits who will be arrested would be punished by whom etc? hence many questions arise. Some say that the number is insufficient to provide security to citizens as police and rangers are deprive of latest and sophisticated weapons.

It is pertinent to mention that the miscreants’ mange to flee from the clutches of law as police personnel is not equipped with latest weaponry.

Chief Justice in his remarks prior to Eid during the hearing of sue moto action taken by Supreme Court on the law and order situation and targeted killings in Karachi CJ said that it is the wish of judiciary that the government machinery should be used to control the situation. He asked IG Sindh that why not any action was taken in the city even after killings of 306 people. He said that IGP should also tell the court that how many torture cells are working in Karachi.

Chief Justice said that extortion money is received in Karachi as a right . In these circumstances how the conditions would be improved. He said that constitution would be implemented in Karachi also.

He instructed IGP to take action for making the city arms free by saying that without taking the arms from the people , peace could not be restored in the city.

During his arguments, lawyer of Sindh government Abdul Hafeez Pirzada told the court that the biggest reason behind Karachi turmoil is that the rangers and police are not being utilized in befitting manner. If they would be assigned properly the state of affairs could be overcome.

He said that the first ever conflict between MQM and Pukhtoons took place in the regime of General Zia-ul-Haq. He said that as far as the current wave of violence is concerned , it started on the issue of local government system, and if it is not controlled , they could turn into ethnic clashes. He said that the rate of crime could not be brought down to zero level in the city, however it could be reduced

During the proceedings ,President Karachi Bar Association Anwar Mansoor requested the bench to transfer the proceedings to Islamabad. On which other lawyers present in the court opposed the suggestion by saying that targeted killings was stopped in the city as CJP is present in the city. On which Chief Justice said that Karachi is his city and they are ready to hold hearing even on Eid day for the restoration of peace in Karachi.

Due to the wave of terrorism hitting the city, more than 50 percent of industries have been completely or partially shut down. Most of the investors have also wrapped up their businesses and shifted abroad due to this bleak scenario according to an estimate more than 400,000 people have been rendered unemployed

Seeing the helplessness of security agencies in Karachi everywhere there is demand of summoning of the army to control the volatile situation in the city. But the real question arises will the people of Karachi would be in favour of army and its action? What is the guarantee that after the arrival of the army the political, religious and social leadership would fully support all the steps of the army? If army does take over than who would punish the arrested criminals? Should army just come take action or should also set up military courts for trial of arrested accused? If this is allowed to happen than would the lawyers who earn millions of rupees from clients will they tolerate army interference? Will they tolerate the absence of criminals from criminal courts and judgements of military courts as military courts judgements are made in days not years like in civil courts. A large portion of Karachi police, which is supporter of political, religious, ethnic and social people, will they help the army in its operation? In view of these questions and reservations another question arises is there a solution to Karachi crisis or not? I f there is that what is it? In this regard the nations should not feel disappointed surely there is a solution which is simple yet complicated.

NA-121 Lahore has been in the grip of the PML-N since 1985, but evolving ground realties in the constituency, including the surfacing of the PTI as a new political force and the re-entry of the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) into electoral politics, ensures a tough electoral contest on May 11. In the past three elections, the PML-N and the JI coalition has won this seat. But in the upcoming polls, the ri
On May 19, the residents of NA-250, PS-112 and PS-113 constituencies of Karachi polled their votes afresh in 43 out of 180 polling stations in a relatively peaceful environment ensured by the army. The Election Commission of Pakistan [ECP] postponed polling on May 11 in 43 polling stations of NA-250, PS-112 and PS-113 constituencies due to widespread complaints of rigging and irregularities and
Polling in Balochistan was not as violent as expected – at least on the polling day itself. Though a dozen of people died in attacks of various kinds but things could so easily have been worse in the most troubled of our provinces. Certainly the run-up to the elections had not been encouraging at all, with bomb blasts, targeted killings and other forms of death and terror striking frequently a
The upcoming KP government will be facing over Rs20 billion deficit in the next financial budget, making it almighty difficult for it to run the financial matters of the province because since the caretakers took over at the centre they province was paid less than Rs15 billion from the divisible pool. Similarly, so far the provincial government has not been paid its Rs6 billion share in the net
